Melanocytes are pigment-producing cells located in the basal layer of the epidermis. They synthesize melanin within organelles called melanosomes, which contribute to skin and hair pigmentation and protect against ultraviolet radiation. Human primary melanocytes are widely used in vitro to study melanin production, pigmentation biology, and cellular responses to UV light in physiologically relevant skin models.
At PromoCell, we provide primary human epidermal melanocytes from a broad range of donors. We also offer culture media developed for the isolation and in vitro cultivation of human melanocytes. Our portfolio includes serum- and BPE-free formulations that support controlled experimental conditions. Using optimized media helps you maintain the melanocyte phenotype and generate more consistent experimental outcomes.
