Respiratory Research

Primary cells represent excellent models for studying respiratory disease. Using cell culture, it is possible to understand lung disease mechanisms at a cellular level and specifically target therapies at pathogenic processes.

The lung is vulnerable to infection and injury from the environment due to constant exposure to particles and microorganisms in inhaled air. Respiratory diseases are leading causes of death and disability worldwide. The variety of factors that can affect lung disease – from lifestyle factors such as inhaled pollutants to disease pathology in cancer – makes this an important area of research. Primary cells represent excellent models for studying respiratory disease. Using cell culture, it is possible to understand lung disease mechanisms at a cellular level and specifically target therapies at pathogenic processes. We offer a wide range of cell types from the respiratory tract for basic and translational research including:

  • Nasal, tracheal, and bronchial airway epithelial cells
  • Pulmonary smooth muscle cells
  • Pulmonary fibroblasts
  • Lung endothelial cells

Our streamlined tissue procurement process through established partners ensures availability of a variety of cells that are consistent between batches. Relevant donor-related information like disease status is available for many of our cell tpyes, allowing study of specific pathological states.
