Tricarboxylic Acid Cycle (TCA) Pathway

PromoCell offers an extensive range of convenient, highly sensitive and reliable assays measuring various metabolites, cofactors, and enzymes involved in the glycolytic and citric acid pathways.

We also supply a choice of inhibitors for enzymes of the glycolysis and TCA pathways, as well as variety of suitable antibodies for cellular analyses, and cytokines/growth factors playing an important role in glycolysis and related pathways.

The TCA cycle (tricarboxylic acid cycle), also known as citric acid cycle (CAC) or Krebs cycle, is a core metabolic pathway of mostly aerobic cellular respiration. It is the main source of energy for cells that generates both energy and reducing power, and a central pathway that provides a unifying point for many metabolites, which feed in at various points.  Stored energy is released through the oxidation of acetyl-CoA derived from carbohydrates, fatty acids, and proteins. The reduced NADH/FADH2 molecules formed by the TCA cycle serve as electron donors for oxidative phosphorylation, resulting in the generation of usable chemical energy in the form of ATP. In addition, the TCA cycle is essential for many biochemical pathways, providing precursors for biosynthesis (e.g. for certain amino acids or steroids), as well as the reducing agent NADH, that are used in numerous other reactions.

Defects of the tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle enzymes are known to be involved in development of several diseases such as cancer, diabetes or immunological disorders.
