Carbohydrate/Glucose Metabolism

Carbohydrates play an essential role in the catabolic and metabolic pathways of living organisms – for storing energy for the myriad biochemical processes in cells and as a source for synthesizing new biomolecules.
Glucose, being an ubiquitous energy source, plays a pivotal role in cellular metabolisms, homeostasis and – consequently – many disorders. In an aerobic process called glycolysis, glucose is degraded to pyruvate, which enters the Tricarboxylic Acid (TCA) cycle for eventually producing ATP (oxidative phosphorylation pathway).
Cancer cells, for example, exhibit increased glucose uptake and glycolysis to support their high proliferation rate.

PromoCell supplies an interesting choice of cell-based/cell-free assay kits for analyzing these important carbohydrate/glucose metabolic pathways. In addition, we provide a variety of fine chemicals/biochemicals (such as enzyme inhibitors) that can be used with these assays.
