Has the Trypsin/EDTA Solution in the PromoCell DetachKit changed now that trypsin activity is reported in BAEE units?
No. The ready-to-use Trypsin/EDTA Solution included in the PromoCell DetachKit (C‑41200) has not changed and should be used as before.
The change from reporting trypsin concentration as a percentage to reporting enzyme activity in BAEE units provides a more precise characterization of trypsin performance and does not require any changes to standard cell culture protocols.
BAEE (Nα-benzoyl-L-arginine ethyl ester) is a synthetic substrate commonly used to determine trypsin activity. The BAEE value indicates how efficiently trypsin cleaves this substrate under defined conditions.
Unlike enzyme concentration, which does not necessarily reflect actual enzyme performance, enzyme activity measures the functional effectiveness of trypsin. Reporting activity in BAEE units therefore supports consistent and reproducible cell detachment performance and improves batch-to-batch comparability.
Please note: The EDTA concentration has not changed and continues to be specified as 0.03% (w/v).
